Primary Sources

As a high school teacher my administration has been pushing the use of primary sources for the past few years. At times it is difficult to find primary sources on certain topics as well as websites that provide primary sources. Believe it or not, the United States Government has a wonderful website that I have listed below that allows access to many primary source documents. There is a good chance that this website will have what you are looking for.

Thank you for the link! Todays' students need to be especially aware of what primary sources are and how to identify them. This is because they are so used to simply Googling a topic and checking out some of the million websites that instantly pop up on their screen. They are often unaware that these sources are not always reliable and the information they provide may be incorrect or biased. Students often believe they can write all their papers and research reports based solely on this information without ever entering a library and using a book, journal or newspaper article. The website you provided bridges the gap between questionable internet research and hours of time in the library searching through ancient microfilms. It gives students the chance to see and use primary documents in the age of technology, which is great! Awesome post!
